Blog hits

I read blogs lately that lament the lowered number of hits on their musings. I wrote back on March 31 that my tally had hit 3000. Today, the tally is 3850. I'm amazed there are more than 5 people who read my blatherings. It sorta makes me laugh when people wring their hands over "lowered readership". I don't write anything here with any expectations of creating a fan base. I'm no Steven King. In fact, I prefer my continued anonimity. How sad, I think, that someone would decide to stop writing because 10 people didn't stop by to make a comment. Writing should be it's own reward. Write to write, people. Say what you want to say, and forget about who MIGHT stop by to read.

Ok. That's all I've got for now. I'm sore from my run this morning, so I'm gonna go get between the sheets and get in a nap.

Training for a marathon

Earlier this year I talked about training up for the Army Ten Miler which is held in early October. Well, that was a hundred years ago, right? The past 4 months have not been exactly conducive for me to be in that mind set one needs to be in to train for long distance running. I've been distracted, to say the least. Well, for the past few weeks now, I've been quite a bit more diligent in my training, and I joined a running group to further encourage my efforts to put miles on my sneakers. I run 30 minutes 2 times during the week, and Saturday mornings find me running with my group.

This group is training under the Jeff  Galloway program (http//www.jeffgalloway.com). It's a walk/run/walk program, one minute walking, 2 minutes running. It's about training smarter, being injury free, quicker recovery from long runs, blah-biddy-blah. I personally think it's a great program, because I'm sticking with it so far, and I feel pretty damn good about my progress. I started only a month ago, and already tomorrow I'm doing a 6 mile run. Yeah, a far cry from a 26 mile marathon, but it's 6 miles more than I was running even a month ago, so like I said, I feel pretty damn good about it.

While my husband is still home, he's running with me in the evenings. Well, actually, what he does is power walk, and I "run" along side him. I'm quite certain it looks quite odd, a tall man walking next to a short woman running. I wish someone would video us from behind, I bet it's hilarious.

The marathon I hope to run is in January, at Disneyworld in Orlando, FL. Two of my girlfriends have said they want to know exact dates so they can put in their leave requests as soon as school starts again. They want to drive down there with me and be my cheering section. I've cautioned them both that they might want to have alternate plans, because I'm pretty sure they're not gonna love standing around for 7 or so hours waiting for me to cross the finish line. I don't WANT to be running for 7 hours, but it's probably about what I'll run it in. My second marathon I'd hope to bring my time down considerably, but for my first one, it's gonna be long and grueling. So my girls will have to occupy themselves with something amusing and come back and watch me crawl across the finish line. And they better have a chilled adult beverage waiting for me.

Oh, and a stretcher. And a dry change of clothes. And a drool bucket. And they'll have to be prepared to listen to me babble incoherently, exhausted beyond comprehension.

And the following day we'll drive back home, and I'll likely be still drooling in the back seat, babbling incoherently. Good times to be had by all.
