I have been living in a tore up house for 4 months now. This kitchen remodel has not gone as smoothly as I would have liked, but progress is being made. I had a kitchen to use until yesterday, now it's gutted. Delays occur, stuff happens but now all the pieces should fall into place nicely. The rewiring will be done today (I'm pretty sure.....) and once that's been inspected they can sheet rock. Once that's done I can paint, then the flooring will be done, then the cabinets and that will put me around the end of this month, so maybe we can actually have peeps over for a 4th of july cookout.

 

Entertaining on the 4th of July. That's been my secret goal along. Me having the "secret plan" certainly hasn't made living in this mess easy. J got off the airplane from Afghanistan back in March and he's had to wait for all this to come together. Well, I've had to wait for it to all come together as well, but I've seen my kitchen inside my head for months now. whereas J just has to wait for the final result. He's gonna love it. I'm not a certified kitchen designer, but MY kitchen is gonna be awesome. Pictures to come.

 

I will say that living in the house during a remodel has provided a learning experience no classroom environment could have given me. Interior design looks real sexy on tv, but what people don't see is how families live while the process goes on. Now I know. Now I have a frame of reference. It's all gonna make me a better designer because I can very knowledgeably talk to a client about this part of the design process. Something not touched on EVER by any of my teachers when I was in California.
