6/30/2006 2006 is 1/2 overThis hasn't been a stellar 6 months for me. The best thing that happened is that J got back from Afghanistan in one piece. The worst was losing my Dad.
Seems every year about this time people all say the same thing: "Can you believe this year is half over already?" No, I can't. It seems like it's been 12 months, not 6. And just when the year seems to drag, it'll pick up speed, and then around Christmas, people will say "Can you believe it's Christmas already?" And I'll say, yes, of course it's Christmas, my husband is deployed. (This will be 4 years in a row. **sigh**)
J will be leaving for Afghanistan again in October. But he'll be gone a month before that, only he'll be in Arizona attending a school. So, for all intents and purposes, I have him home for another 2 1/2 months, and then he'll be gone again.
For as much as I love that man, I do truly hate all the away time that has passed between us. I have no idea how we'll behave once he retires and isn't deploying anymore. Cause there have been a few days since he's been home that I think "God, is there a school he can go to so he can just not be here?" It's a common phenomenon amongst military wives, I've heard.
I don't want to wish time away, but I do look forward to 2007. Just so 2006 will be over.

Quote I especially like the design, and I ESPECIALLY like the Bettis had a hand in the design. I'm gonna get me a fan ring, just as soon as I can swing the $$. Here we go Steelers, here we go!

And that is why I say my son can have a phone just as soon as he can afford it on his own. On his own, not as a gift from a relative or friend. When he's paying for the cell phone, then he can download whatever ringtone he can afford. I'm so not concerned, as I'm certain, given his general grumpy, surly, typical teen "tude", he'll just complain to his friends about what meany I am (or he'll phrase it more graphically, more dramatically). **shrug** He's just not gonna have "tude" on my dime. No way. Ringtones I can't hear?? GREAT!!!! I wish there were MORE I couldn't hear, some of them are so annoying. Particularly the ringtones alot of teens use around here.

Hoople Head QuarterbackBen Rothlisberger. What a dumbass. Riding a motorcycle without a helmet. What a dumbass. Busted jaw and broken nose, serious but stable condition. What a dumbass hoople head. I hope this doesn't portend things to come. Chalk it up to his youth, I say....But then, wasn't he warned against riding without a helmet by Cowher? And by Bradshaw? Ben said he just had to be careful..Yes, he had to be careful, but being careful, when riding a motorcycle, means wearing a helmet, even in states that do not have helmet laws. Because one never knows when a driver might pull out in front of you and BAM, busted jaw and broken nose.
Dumbass hoople head quarterback. 6/10/2006 Front planter projectI've actually been "finished" with this project for a while now, I just now got around to adding pictures so y'all can see how it looks. The backyard, well, that's still a mess, but I'll get around to it. At least now, when you drive up to my house, you're not seeing a scary mess, or just dirt anymore. My very favorite part is the fountain. I love that fountain. I love coming home, getting out of the truck, and hearing the fountain as I walk to my front door. For anyone who has the opportunity to put a feature like this near their front door, I HIGHLY recommend it. In addition to hearing water fall, I also have 4 different windchimes out there. So with the water and and the windchimes, it's a real treat for me to walk in or out of my front door.
I think my Dad would really have enjoyed it too.

Why should heterosexuals get to have all the fun? We so enjoy the disfunctionality of celebrity nuptials, imagine how rapt the readership for the Enquirer or People to scoop the dissolution of Elton and David's union. This is where I believe it's a blurring of separation of Church and State. Someone's religious views should not dictate politics. Or does life lived Afghani-style sound like fun? Women in birkas all around the U.S. Woohoo!!! Regardless of your personal views on the matter, I don't think Uncle Sam needs to get into people's private matters. He's busy enough rummaging around his hand in our collective pockets. He can stay the hell out of our bedrooms, right? Hey, Uncle Sam: howsabout you worry about our poor, and let those gay couples be. Get your priorities straight (pun intended). That's just my opinion.... more again later.....
6/3/2006 Is it June already????Where does the time go? Seriously! Where has it all gone?
These are just a few of the quotations that jump to mind when I have these moments. Seems like June is the month when I typically have this "where has it all gone?" moment. Why June? It's the halfway point between a year being new and a year being old. It's when seniors graduate. It's when summer vacation starts. It's still spring, but not quite summer. I was looking at my calendar online. I missed 3 of my close friend's birthdays. I missed birthdays of neices and nephews. I missed anniversaries of close friends. This was supposed to be a good year for me, and I look at it so far and it's more than a little shocking to realize how distracted I am from my regular and mundane life. I realize school is a big part of the distraction, and my recalcitrant teen-aged son is part of the distraction, and certainly my father dying has been a huge part of the distraction. How many red lights have I run, because I'm distracted? How many times did the dog not get fed in the morning, because I'm distracted? How many pounds of food wasted away in my refrigerator, getting tossed in the garbage, because I'm distracted? How much in late fees have we had to pay because I've not paid bills on time, because I'm distracted? Seriously, though, where has the time gone? And could more of it pass quicker? So this pain and sadness I feel will succumb to the healing I'm assured time will give.
